Ronda Rousey becomes first female athlete to sign with the UFC

According to TMZ, Strikeforce women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has signed a contract with the UFC and will now be named the promotion’s 135-pound champion.

Apparently, the Strikeforce Jan. 2013th event will be the last card the promotion will hold.

Here’s a quote:

“Ronda Rousey just made MMA history … becoming the very first female fighter to join the UFC … Rousey — a former U.S. Olympian — has officially joined Dana White’s MMA organization … and automatically becomes the 135 lb women’s champion … sources say Strikeforce, which airs on Showtime, will be running its last event in January before folding up shop for good.”

There is no indication as to when her Octagon debut will be, but rumors have been circulating that her first opponent could be either Sara McMann, Cristiane Cyborg or Miesha Tate.

Let’s also note that neither the UFC or Strikeforce released any news confirming this news, however they are expected to release this news in the next week.
