With this exciting bout announced by the UFC just days ago, UFC president Dana White knows that “there are no guarantees with Nick Diaz”, which is why the promotion has back up plans put in place if such a thing were to happen prior to UFC 158 in Montreal.
It is highly unlikely that Diaz will ruin his second chance to get his hands on Georges St-Pierre, but it is also not guaranteed.
The Stockton native was a no-show at his UFC 137 media pre-fight obligations. The match was awarded to Carlos Condit, until GSP injured himself and Condit went on to fight Diaz for the title.
White explains himself via MMA Fight Corner:
“There’s no guarantees with Nick Diaz. I got nine welterweights that are all in the top five on this show, so if he falls out, we’ll still have a GSP fight.”
If that’s the case, White has plenty of options, seeing that 4 out of the top 10 welterweights will appear on the card.
That’s good news for Montreal residents, no?
