Maximum Fighting suing Winspear Centre for $500,000

Maximum Fighting Inc. has launched a $500,000 lawsuit against the Edmonton Concert Hall Foundation for breach of an agreement.

Maximum Fighting had an agreement to stage three mixed martial arts events at the Winspear Centre, which is run by the concert hall foundation, in April, August and November, the company says in its statement of claim.

But the Winspear, which more typically hosts classical and other music concerts, “unilaterally decided to cancel the agreement,” Maximum Fighting claims.

The three-page statement of claim contains allegations that have not been proven in court.

Maximum Fighting says it put down a $5,400 deposit and had a written agreement to hold an event at the Winspear on April 9, with a verbal agreement that two more events would be held in August and November.

The promotion company is suing for loss of revenue and profits, sponsorship funds, and out-of-pocket costs.

The non-profit concert hall foundation has not yet filed a statement of defence.
