UFC President Dana White will make up UFC 149 card to the upset fans

Calgary fans have some hope now in 2013 as UFC President Dana White himself stated that he plans to make it up to the “upset” fans with the injury-studded card that took place last July 2012 at UFC 149.

When tickets for UFC 149 went on sale last year (The promotion’s debut in Calgary, Alberta), the names promoted included Jose Aldo, Michael Bisping, Shogun Rua, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Jon Fitch and Yoshihiro Akiyama to name a few.  Tickets sold out in just a few short days.

Then, the worst thing for a promoter happened as the complete card changed drastically due to the infamous 2012 injury bug that forced most of the names out of competition, with fans not being able to see one single fight from the main card that they originally hoped for.

Although the UFC prides itself on producing stellar cards, Dana White himself had some explaining to do and has promised that he has not forgot about the July 2012 card and that he would make it up to the fans.  Here is a an excerpt from his interview on MMA Fighting:

“In all honesty, I think we delivered great events all year…except for Calgary,” White told Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting in a UFC 155 pre-fight interview in Las Vegas. “I think that I’m always very confident going into an event that we’re going to deliver because the guys do, the guys always deliver, and we didn’t. We didn’t deliver in Calgary and that was probably the lowest of the lows. Even canceling the Jones event wasn’t as bad as the Calgary event. You know, we went in there, we sold out, and there was a lot of people who – that were upset about that Calgary event.”

Although a date has not been officially announced for the UFC’s return to Calgary in 2013, you can be sure that the powers that be at UFC will ensure that the next trip to Western Canada will be a success!

“It’s something that really bothers me and it’s the thing that stands out in my head the most that I do want to go back to Calgary and I want to deliver next time.”
