Anderson Silva fined $50,000 for skipping UFC 162 media day in Los Angeles

Big news today in the MMA world as UFC middleweight champion and pound for pound best fighter in the world Anderson Silva has been fined $50,000 for no-showing a series of planned interviews for his upcoming UFC 162 bout against Chris Weidman in Los Angeles.

Here it straight from Dana White himself:

“We had a full media day set up for him in Los Angeles, and he just decided he didn’t want to do it, so he’s being fined $50,000. He doesn’t like talking to the media, but it’s part of his contractual obligation. Everybody wants more money, more money, more money, but nobody wants to sell the fight or go out and talk to the media. Talking to the media is part of your job, whether you like it or not.”

Radio stations, television and other media outlets were left stranded when Silva decided to fly back home to Brazil.

Nick Diaz is the only other incident the UFC had with talent not showing to media obligations.
