UFC 161 media conference call highlights

The UFC held a conference call today in preparation for it’s June 15, 2013 card that will be held inside the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

UFC 161 will feature a main-event between Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans plus many more exciting bouts.

On the call today were media outlets and the main stars of UFC 161.

Below read all the conference call highlights:

Roy Nelson: I wish I would have had more time to give fans 100 percent of Roy Nelson, but you do it for the fans and the company.

Roy Nelson: Stipe wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t one of the best in the world.

Stipe Miocic: I’ll try to not let him dictate what he wants to do. Stay away from that right hand and do what I want to do.

Rashad Evans: I’m not really honestly, the whole title shot is not on my mind. I just want to go and fight and whatever happens after that happens. I don’t really care.

Hendo: Obviously, it was something that was supposed to happen last year and didn’t. I’d like to fight Jon Jones. I feel like I have unfinished business there, but I’m 100 percent focused on this fight. Rashad is extremely tough and dangerous. I need to make sure I’m focused.

Tom Wright: Fighters get hurt, but they also perform. I have confident that every fighter will put on a great show and Winnipeg will not be disappointed.

Tom Wright: I can tell you Dana and Joe Silva were working very hard to find someone to come in on a short period of time. A whole bunch of circumstances came into play and it was decided to let a Chael/Rua fight happen later. We’ve got the first ever women’s fight in Canada so nothing I can comment to specifically but it is what it is.

Rashad Evans: I’ve addressed the issues where I felt I was wrong. For the most part, I have to have a short memory on that thing. If you hold onto it too long, it can happen again. I have to go out there and do it. Second guessing myself won’t get me any closer to fighting to the best of my abilities. I am ready to put on the fight I trained for.

Dan Henderson: I came here in January and I didn’t get to see much of Winnipeg because I didn’t get outside at all. I’m sure June will be better and I’m looking forward to being outside now.

Rashad Evans: It was a pleasant surprise for the UFC to have faith in me to close out the show.

Dan Henderson: Lyoto is a different fighter than most everyone else. I didn’t perform to my best and I could have done some things differently, but it’s hard to fight a guy that doesn’t want to fight ya. I could have done some things differently, been more aggressive, but I’m feeling definitely confident and ready for this fight. This training camp has been great. I don’t think it affects what my performance will be in this fight.

Roy Nelson: I think it’s just that I represent America. I’m just there to break it into the mainstream for everybody.

Roy Nelson: People that tend to be in our sport tend to abuse performance enhancing drugs and that’s why I don’t look like a typical UFC fighter.

Roy Nelson: This is definitely a skilled sport and we’re athletes. I think I have more skills than the other guys. Just like UFC 1, it was the smaller, more technical guy that beat everybody.

Roy Nelson: Most guys can’t grow a full head of hair and the beard, that’s just something to do.

Roy Nelson: Anybody in the UFC is the top of the food chain. If we weren’t, we wouldn’t be in the UFC. That’s why none of the heavyweights can hold the belt for more than two fights at a time unless they’re fighting the same guys over and over. On any given day, I know I can beat anybody up and knock anybody out.

Stipe Miocic: It’s why I picked the fight. We’re all trying to get to the top and that’s why we do what we do.

Roy Nelson: I think I got offered Daniel Cormier and he turned it down and they went down the list, Travis Browne etc. Stipe was on the card already and he was the only one that stepped up.
