Barao vs. Wineland take two! Bantamweight title back on the line at UFC 165 in Toronto

An important Bantamweight title tilt will take place at UFC 165 in Toronto, Canada.   Champion Renan Barao will battle number-one contender Eddie Wineland in front of the thousands in attendance at the Air Canada Centre on September 21, 2013.

The two were first planned as the headliner of UFC 161, but was scrapped after Barao was sidelined with a foot injury.

In most injury related cases involving a champion, it is not guaranteed that the challenger would be given another opportunity at the belt at a later date.

Luckily for the former WEC Bantamweight Champion and top contender Eddie Wineland, he has been granted the opportunity to battle Brazil’s Renan Barao in Toronto on September 21.

This is an important fight for the division as Renan Barao has been on a roll inside the UFC since his inception on May 28, 2011 at UFC 130.   Barao has gone undefeated in the UFC and won the interim championship after defeating Urijah Faber at UFC 149 in Calgary, Alberta.

He defended his newly won strap against top contender Michael McDonald at UFC on Fuel TV: Barao vs. McDonald     this past February.  Barao wants one thing and one thing only, a crack at the longtime injured champ Dominick Cruz.

The will to win for Barao is more so than ever now seeing that his chances of fighting Cruz can become a reality by the end of 2013.

Wineland has the chance of a lifetime to not only stop Barao’s impressive win streak, but an opportunity to become a UFC champion.

Wineland was off to a terrible start inside the Octagon with his first two attempts falling short of a victory to both Urijah Faber and Joseph Benavidez.  The Texas-native bounced back though with two important wins over top caliber opponents.  His wins over Scott Jorgensen and Brad Pickett earned him a shot at the most coveted prize in all of Mixed Martial Arts, the interim bantamweight championship.

This bout will serve as the co-main attraction for UFC 165 as Jon Jones defends his UFC Light Heavyweight strap against Alexander Gustafsson in the main-event.

This stacked card can be seen on pay-per-view and is a must see for all MMA fans worldwide.
