Georges St. Pierre vacates UFC welterweight title, Hendricks vs. Lawler fight for vacant title

It’s official!  Georges St-Pierre has decided to vacate his title and walk away from the sport, for now at the age of 32.

GSP made his decision to walk away from MMA indefinitely.

“Rush” made his announcement earlier today during a special media press conference held in Montreal.

“I’ve being fighting for a very long time at a high level. It’s a lot of pressure. I’ve decided I need to take time off. I vacated my title for the respect of other competitors. One day, when I feel like it, I might come back. But right now, I need a break.”

In his absence, Johny Hendricks will fight Robbie Lawler for the vacant welterweight title at the UFC 171: “Jones vs. Teixeira” pay-per-view event, which takes place on March 15, 2013 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.
