Global Warriors MMA league announces May 30th headliner as Josh Hill battles Josh Rettinghouse in Burlington, Ontario

Burlington, Ontario – The widely speculated & hotly anticipated main event for Global Warriors 2: Coming Home at Burlington’s Central Arena on May 30th has been announced. Hometown hero “Gentleman” Josh Hill (10–1) will face one of his toughest challenges when he goes toe to toe with fellow WSOF bantamweight contender Josh “The Finisher” Rettinghouse (10-3). Both fighters have taken WSOF Champion Marlon Moraes to his very limit, with Hill nearly claiming the belt in their meeting, and will now test one another’s resolve, skill & heart with the winner certain to be knocking on Moraes’ door once again.

Returning home to fight infront of a Southern Ontario crowd for the first time since a dominant decision victory over Canadian MMA legend John Fraser in August of 2012, Josh Hill has become household name in the sport in his near 3-year regional absence. Starting with a run on the UFC’s Ultimate Fighter, Hill would parlay his time on the fight/reality show into a contract with the WSOF. Making his WSOF debut in Edmonton at WSOF 2, Hill took the fight to a highly regarded Mike Adams (7-2 entering that fight) finishing the proceedings with a highlight reel KO just 4:20 into the bout. Riding the momentum, Hill was awarded the opportunity to fight for the WSOF Bantamweight Championship against Marlon Moraes (14-4-1) at WSOF 18. Hill took the fight to the champion in the first round, nearly taking the belt with a tremendous right uppercut. In the end the fight would go to the judges and Hill would take his first career loss, in a razor thin decision. Josh Hill also appeared on Global Warriors first card in August of 2011, when he showed his incredible wrestling skill in a decision victory over Dan Henderson trained Federico “Kiko” Lopez (10-5). With family & friends in the crowd, Josh Hill will be more motivated then ever to put on a show on May 30th.

Providing the opposition to “The Gentleman” on May 30th will be the “The Finisher” Josh Rettinghouse. Another rising star in the bantamweight division, Rettinghouse has earned his nickname well, finishing 8 of his 10 career victory by form of stoppage. His biggest career victory however, came by way of a hard fought decision over big fight veteran & 1996 Olympic Bronze medalist in Freestyle Wrestling, Alexis Villa (14-6). Heading into the fight Rettinghouse was seen as a stepping stone for the veteran Villa on his way to a title fight but the upstart took the fight to the Cuban Olympian from the opening bell. Out-striking and even out-wrestling Villa, Rettinghouse showed great speed and precision in announcing his arrival on the big stage. The victory over Villa earned Rettinghouse an immediate chance to fight Marlon Moares for the, then, vacant WSOF title at WSOF 6. Rettinghouse would just be unable to out-work the now long-term title holder in a decision loss but certainly showed he belongs amongst the elite at 135. For “The Finisher” May 30th isn’t just about a win but a statement win to spoil Josh Hill’s homecoming and set himself up for another chance WSOF gold.
