Report: Sean O’Connell meets Canadian newcomer Misha Cirkunov at UFC Fight Night 74

A light heavyweight bout featuring a Canadian standout newcomer has been booked for the UFC’s return to Canada next month in Saskatoon.

Misha Cirkunov (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Sean O’Connell (17-6 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will lock horns on August 23 from inside the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at UFC Fight Night 74.

UFC officials have not yet made a formal announcement of the booking.

O’Connell started his UFC career with back-to-back losses to Canadian Ryan Jimmo and Gian Villante in 2014. He rebounded and won a third-round TKO over Matt Van Buren at UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston in Janauary, winning a $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus. And in May, he had arguably his most impressive win to date – a 56-second TKO of Anthony Perosh in Australia.

Toronto’s highly regarded Cirkunov, is currently riding a four-fight win streak and is looking to live up to the hype on August 23.  He holds an impressive first-round TKO win over UFC veteran Rodney Wallace back in January. The 28-year-old has seven stoppage wins in his nine career victories.

The latest UFC Fight Night 74 now lineup includes:

Max Holloway vs. Charles Oliveira

Felipe Arantes vs. Yves Jabouin
