Potential MMA fights for 2018

A few more days and we bring 2017 to an end. What a year 2017 has been for Mixed Martial Arts, epitomised by the ‘fight of the century’ pitting MMA’s own, Connor McGregor going head to head against the best boxer of his generation, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. The result may not have been what many MMA fans wanted but the fight itself opened closed doors for many MMA fighters.

Moving into a new year means moving into new fights. We all want to see the best go head to head and here, we have compiled a list of some matches that we would like to see in the new year. To stay updated of all the rumours doing rounds in MMA and other potential fights, head over to sport.netbet.co.uk.

Connor McGregor vs Tony Ferguson

We start off with the man who made all the headlines in MMA history in 2017, Connor McGregor. 2017 was a great year for him but that is now in the past. Ferguson called out McGregor after defeating Kevin Lee but McGregor was nowhere to be seenthen even up to this day. We all know that McGregor knows Ferguson called him out so we wait and see what will be McGregor’s response when it finally comes. Whether or not he responds, McGregor still has to defend his two titles and that will put him on the path of Tony Ferguson. After impressive victories in 2017 for Ferguson, a McGregor vs Ferguson fight will be a highlight for all MMA fans.

Heather Hardy vs Ana Julaton

It’s safe to call this the ‘fight that never was’ in reference to 2017. At the start of 2017, everyone was raving about this fight with several reports saying the two teams had started deliberations about the fight dates and so on. However, the same fate for each of these two ladies during the year effectively sealed it. Heather Hardy lost to Kristina Williams while Ana Julaton lost to Lisa Blaine. Their defeats derailed all the plans for the biggest female MMA fight in 2017 but our hope is that in 2018, we are going to witness this fight.

Cain Velasquez vs FabricioWerdum

A rematch of the Championship headliner at UFC 188 is on the cards for 2018 after four previous attempts all failed largely to niggling injuries suffered by Cain Velasquez. Velasquez closes the year injury free thus a good thing for MMA fans who want to see a rematch of the UFC 188 main match. Velasquez will be even more determined to make this fight a reality as he attempts to have his revenge against the man that took away his heavyweight championship.
