Who’ll Win UFC 240 – Holloway or Edgar?

UFC 240 is an upcoming MMA event that will take place in Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada. The main card features an enticing fight between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar fans have been waiting for years. In the women’s featherweight category, Chris Cyborg will take on Felicia Spencer, but the Holloway vs. Edgar fight is generating a lot more buzz than the other fights on the main card.

Holloway and Edgar have already had 2 fights scheduled before. However, both were scrapped due to injuries, disappointing fans that have been waiting for the former and current featherweight champions to lock horns. This time, the American fighters will square off against each other and everyone’s hoping that it’s a fight for the ages. The UFC 240 main fight is also generating a lot of interest among punters, with bookies offering odds months before the event.

The best online sports betting Canada sites have Holloway as the betting favorite and that shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Available at 1/4, Holloway is the major favorite for the fight. Frankie Edgar sits at 3/1 at the moment and looks a much better bet than Max Holloway. However, the current champ isn’t a betting favorite for nothing. You can bet that bookies have taken a good look at his previous fights and made a reasonable decision to make Holloway such a big favorite.

The other bouts should be interesting for punters as well. In the women’s featherweight category, Chris Cyborg (1/7) is the betting favorite for the fight vs. Felicia Spencer (9/2). One of the most interesting fights on the fight card will be the bout between Geoff Neal and Niko Price with odds of 1/3 and 9/4 respectively. On the preliminary card, the fight between Alexandre Pantoja and Figueirido is generating a lot of interest from punters. It will sure be an interesting fight from many aspects especially as there are no betting favorites – bookies have both fighters equal at odds of 10/11.

No matter how exciting the other fights are, the highgliht on the fight card is the Holloway vs. Edgar title bout. Let’s take a deeper look into the chances of both fighters.

This is Holloway’s return to the featherweight division after his brief and unsuccessful run in lightweight category. Max Holloway fought Dustin Poirier for the Lightweight Championship in an epic five-setter that unfortunately ended in unanimous decision for Poirier. Now, the featherweight champ is back in his own “realm”, where he’ll finally take on Frankie Edgar in a fight that has been in the works for ages. Due to Holloway’s excellent record in featherweight category, where’s he’s currently on a winning streak of 13 fights, he was always going to be the betting favorite.

Not that Frankie Edgar isn’t going to give Holloway problems. A former UFC Lightweight champion himself, Edgar is notable for his ability to defeat former world champions. His last win came in April 2018 when he won against Cub Swanson and he’s still expected to be a big challenge for Holloway. The two have a lot of history together. The first Holloway vs. Edgar fight was supposed to take place at UFC 217 in 2017 when Edgar pulled out due to injury. The fight was rescheduled for UFC 222 in 2018 when Max Holloway surprisingly pulled out due to a leg injury. This is the third time these two fighters are supposed to meet, and this time, the fight will take place.

Many former and current fighters have weighed in opinions ahead of the fight, and they don’t click with the betting odds. Alex Wolkanowski is sure that Frankie Edgar is going to give Max Holloway a hard time, while former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez, who’s Edgar’s sparring partner, doesn’t see how Holloway can win this fight. Alvarez has been a coaching companion to Edgar for years and they’re very close – if there’s anyone who knows Edgar well, it’s him.

We fully expect the fight to be as close as possible. Both Holloway and Edgar are amazing fighters who have already showcased their skills on several occasions. There’s no bad blood between them – only respect. As he once said, Edgar is motivated by Max Holloway’s greatness and that could be the fuel that helps him win. Of course, with a possible Nurmagomedov challenge on the line, Max Holloway has got plans on his own. All of this promises an exciting title bout and we’re looking forward to it.
