Top MMA Fighters Canada has given to the UFC

The MMA scene in Canada has been pretty strong for a long time now. In fact, the country has been amongst the top places to produce elite-level MMA fighters.

With the UFC President Dana White admitting time and again that Canada houses some of the most passionate and best UFC fans in the world, and having put plans in place for UFC to open its Canadian office in Toronto, it is clear that the country continues to be a top location for some of the most prominent UFC fights. Here in this short article, we will acquaint you with some of the top MMA fighters that Canada has given to UFC.

TJ Grant

Everyone knows how TJ Grant’s career would have unfolded in the UFC if he hadn’t suffered that untimely injury that derailed his hopes of winning the lightweight title. Essentially a welterweight fighter, TJ Grant remained unbeaten in five straight fights in the lightweight category, including a victory by TKO, over Gray Maynard, the former title challenger. He was well on his way to fight for the title and was even backed by UFC betting odds offered by several reputed bookmakers, until he came down with a concussion which brought an abrupt end to his MMA career. Grant hasn’t been a part of UFC action since 2013, however, he still trains and maintains his fitness levels without fail.

David Loiseau

Considered a pioneer in the Canadian MMA world, and nicknamed ‘The Crow’, David Loiseau became the first-ever fighter in the history of the UFC to finish a fight through spinning hook kick. He gained wide recognition for his creative and unconventional striking methods. David peaked in his UFC career in the year 2006 after winning three UFC fights back to back, and then challenging Rich Franklin for the middleweight championship. Regardless of the fact that he lost to Franklin pretty badly, David had already made his mark in the UFC by then.

Alexis Davis

Many are of the opinion that Davis always remained underappreciated in the MMA world. However, that doesn’t change the fact that she is amongst the best female MMA fighters to have emerged from the Great White North. Popularly known as ‘Ally-Gator’, Davis was comprehensively beaten by Ronda Rousey within 16 seconds, but before that enjoyed a phenomenal eight year career in the MMA, highlighted by victories over fighters like Amanda Nunes, Shayna Baszler and fellow Canadian fighter Sarah Kaufman. She currently holds a 19-10-0 record in the UFC.

Sarah Kaufman

Sarah Kaufman couldn’t continue fighting in the UFC after her second straight loss in 2015. Nevertheless, she enjoyed a 10 year long successful career in the MMA, and was amongst the pioneers in the sport in her country. Her MMA career boasted of victories over names like Roxanne Modafferi, Alexis Davis and the former UFC and Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate.
