CBF Inaugural MMA Canadian Title Match

The Canadian Boxing Federation is proud to announce that in Edmonton, it crowned its first ever Mixed Martial Arts Canadian Champion. The bout was between Victor Bachman of Edmonton and Stjepan Vujnovic of Georgetown, Ontario for the official Canadian Welterweight Championship. This match ended early when Bachman had Vujnovic in a triangle choke, and while he was helpless and unable to defend himself, Bachman was able to rain unanswered elbows on his head. Referee Brian Bernhardt made an excellent call to halt the action at 49 seconds of the first round. The main event featured Eric "Butterbean" Esch,from Jasper, Alabama, who lost by TKO at 2:28 of the first round to Edmonton's Nick Penner in the Super Heavyweight division. Other matches saw Edmonton's Chris Ade win with an armbar submission over BC's Adam Thomas at 4:58 of the 2nd round; Tim Thurston KO'd Curtis Demarce at :34 seconds of the 3rd; Shaun Krysa stopped Richard Menard at 1:30 of the first, and Jay Jenkins KO'd Brad Geiger at 4:18 of the first round. Marcus Hicks beat Mason Hunter when referee Vern Gorman stopped their bout at 28 seconds of the first due to unanswered blows, and Chase Holthe used a triangle choke to submit his opponent Phil Wark at 1:05 of the first. The opening bout of the evening saw Chuck Pelc beat Lee Berger, also at 1:05 of the first, this one by TKO for unanswered blows.
The promoter of the event was The Fight Club and it attracted 1500 MMA fans to the Shaw Convention Centre.
