Yahoo! Canada Launches Round 5 MMA Collectibles Sean McManus
MMACanada.net was on hand for Yahoo! Canada's Round 5 Launch Party at the Brant House in Toronto. Randy Couture and Sean Sherk were in attendance to help celebrate the launch of Round 5 MMA action figurines. The night's festivities kicked off with an official press conference attended by media from all over Canada and Toronto, followed up by a launch party for select guests and media people.
Yahoo! Canada knows how to throw a party. Randy and Sean were of course on hand, along with Mark Bocek, Mark Hominick, Chris Horodecki, Gary Goodridge and former Argos quarterback, Damon Allen. Fans were given the opportunity to mingle and get pictures with all of the fighters.
Round 5 Series 1 includes former UFC Welterweight champion – Matt Hughes, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion – Tito Ortiz, current Light Heavyweight champion – Quinton Jackson and of course UFC Hall of Famer – Randy Couture. Sean Sherk was on hand as he will have an action figurine released with the Round 5 Series 2 along with current UFC Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva and former UFC Middleweight champion, Rich Franklin. The co-owners of Round 5 – Damon and Barron Lau, were undecided as to who would accompany Sherk, Franklin, and Silva as the fourth figurine to be released in the 2nd series. Randy Couture had his ideas as to who it should be and Sean Sherk also had someone in mind. The two were given the opportunity to arm wrestle to have their pick molded into history. Randy’s pick was BJ Penn and Sherk's pick was Wanderlei Silva or Forrest Griffin. Sean put up a solid effort; however it will be BJ Penn who will have his own collectible to play with as soon as the Round 5 Series 2 hit the shelves.
Mixed Martial Arts has made its mark in the sporting world and it is now reaching a much larger audience with fan favorite action figures being available in many retail stores across North America. The sale of the Round 5 figurines will put money directly into the pockets of the fighters chosen for release. Randy Couture is dedicated to improving MMA fighter’s rights and work environment and the release of Round 5 is a step in the right direction. It is an exciting time to be part of the sport and Yahoo! Canada has to be commended on supporting this growing industry by hosting a phenomenal evening for everyone involved.
