Recent UFC signee Denis Kang will likely debut in January at UFC 93 in a middleweight bout with Alan Belcher. Sources say that the fight, which was first reported by MMAonTap.com, is expected to be finalized this week. Alan 'The Talent' Belcher recently reported on the Underground Forum that he has verbally agreed to the fight, however he has not yet received a bout agreement to sign.
Kang, 31, signed a 4 fight deal with the UFC earlier this month. The Canadian of Korean-French descent is the reigning heavyweight champion (80kg+) with SpiritMC, a South Korean-based fight promotion.
The 2006 PRIDE welterweight grand prix runner-up had emerged as a highly ranked middleweight during a 23-fight undefeated streak from April 2003 to November 2006. However, he then suffered three losses in a four-fight span, which included a first-round submission defeat to Gegard Mousasi in the opening round of the 2008 DREAM middleweight grand prix earlier this year.
He'll look to build off his recent back-to-back victories, which included a 48-second TKO or Marvin Eastman on Oct. 25 at Raw Combat in Calgary, when he meets Belcher, a dangerous opponent with an ever-improving stand-up game.
Belcher, 24, has won three of his past four fights, which included a narrow split-decision victory over Ed Herman in September at UFC Fight Night 15. It was only his second win that went to a decision.
UFC 93 takes place Jan. 17 at The O2 in Dublin, Ireland, and features Rich Franklin vs. Dan Henderson and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua vs. Mark Coleman.
