With the sad news earlier today about Canadian Bantamweight Mitch Gagnon not being able to fight this Saturday due to Visa complications,  the UFC announced that Edmonton, Alberta's Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald will return to the octagon on May 15, 2012 at UFC on FX 3 in Fairfax, VA and do battle with "Filthy" Tom Lawlor.

While not officially announced by the organization, it is expected to take place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.  The event will be the second that the organization has hosted at the Patriot Center, following UFC Fight Night 20.

MacDonald's UFC career has been a roller coaster to say the least, nearly a year after his last bout, MacDonald fought and submitted Ryan Jensen via first round triangle choke at UFC 129 on April 30, 2011 in Toronto, Canada.  His last attempt was against Alan Belcher on September 17, 2011 at UFC Fight Night 25, losing via verbal submission due to strikes in the first round.

MacDonald faces a tough task ahead of him in Tom Lawlor, who holds a win over top Canadian middleweight Patrick Cote back at UFC 121 in Montreal.

Lawlor was submitted back in November, 2011 by Chris Weidman at UFC 139 and is looking to add one to the win column with a win over MacDonald in May.
